My friend Fred sometimes goes to Ft. Bragg on business. I asked him if it was hard to get in – you know, terrorist security and stuff.
He said, no, not where he goes. But he said he has friends who tell him there are places there that they’ve never seen, “with some wild things going on.”
Isn’t that what you want? Secret plans. Someone paying attention, taking control, preparing behind the scenes. And they’re not telling you or anyone what they’re up to. Sorry, you just won’t understand and your misunderstanding will complicate things. So it’s staying secret.
At work, do you really want to know all the details, all the plans, all the threats, all the contingencies? Aren’t you glad there are levels above you where someone worries about those things? If you knew they were on top of it all, wouldn’t that be enough to assure you, even though you don't know the particulars?
I’ve got things I pray and think about that I can’t even put into words. I would think that would reassure Brenda – she should like it that her husband and her God talk in private. It’s enough to know they do – she doesn’t need the details.
Job didn't know any of the behind-the-scenes stuff. He suffered a horrible season of life, and never did get his questions answered. If he’d seen how everything started, with God pointing him out to the devil, he might have really flipped out. God spent four chapters of the Bible proving to Job there’s no way he can understand God’s secret ways. But he could understand God is in total control.
We’re told there are angels waiting for a certain hour when this world finishes up, but we’re not told what they’re going to do when that hour gets here. None of our business. We know someone is in charge, paying attention, cuing the actors, and that’s enough.
