You’re always thinking. Every moment you’re part of a constant inner dialogue. There’s perpetually a little narration going on, right? You don’t make yourself do it, it just happens. Sometimes you concentrate, but even when you don’t, you’re still thinking.
The prayer thing you have to do consciously. It involves that same part of you that does the thinking. If you’re doing one, you’re not doing the other. What would you say your ratio of thinking to praying is? Roughly, for me, it’s about 100 to 1, maybe 200 to 1. (I did the math—you can, too). I’ll bet yours is about the same.
What if it was 50 to 1? Or even 20 to 1? But you can’t pray that much! Sure you can. We’re not talking about sitting in a chair with your hands folded (although that can be part of it). Where are you when you do all that thinking-instead-of-praying, when you let all that inner dialogue play out? Is it sitting in a chair with your hands folded? No, it’s just all the time, as you go.
I’m not saying thinking is inferior. I’m just asking is it superior by 100 to 1, or 200 to 1, or higher?
What would happen if you made a little more of that prayer?
