When I look at things incident by incident, issue by issue, or by problem or do-list-item, it feels like a lot of pieces -- so many I can’t keep up. It’s overwhelming.
But when I go wide and high, and see everything being part of a bigger thing, then each individual thing that seems to weigh so much gets lighter. Each becomes more what it is -- one part.
When I make each piece bigger than it is, it feels like there are a lot of heavy things, like there’s more than one ‘whole.’ But when I see the truth that there’s only one whole with different areas and each area has parts, it’s much simpler -- like something is saying, ‘yes, this is the way it really is.’
If you see each piece as a whole, then each piece takes on a bigger role than it really has – and when you mess one part up (which you will) you react and feel like you’ve ‘messed the whole thing up!’ You haven’t. Just one part.
Gary,
How interesting... you've said it so well!!
