That'll grab your attention, eh? That's what Al Mohler (President of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary) wrote last week. Is it possible some homosexual orientation may be biological? What would that mean?
10 Christian thoughts to think about the possibility that homosexuality is biological (via BTW) -- here's two:
3. Given the consequences of the Fall and the effects of human sin, we should not be surprised that such a causation or link is found. After all, the human genetic structure, along with every other aspect of creation, shows the pernicious effects of the Fall and of God's judgment.
4. The biblical condemnation of all homosexual behaviors would not be compromised or mitigated in the least by such a discovery. The discovery of a biological factor would not change the Bible's moral verdict on homosexual behavior.
If homosexuality is genetically caused, doesn't it make one as responsible for that as say, cancer? People are not judged for the physical malfunctions that are brought upon their bodies. In those cases, what people need is healing, not forgiveness. However, sin is not a bodily issue; it is purely a spiritual issue, isn’t it? It is a life without the giver of life. It is a soul unsubmitted to the Lord. God gives grace for deliverance “where sin abounds”.
If homosexuality were genetic, we should be offering the homosexual community healing through Jesus Christ, not condemnation. If it is sin in the spiritual sense, then we can offer deliverance for those who are willing, to all for whom the blood of Jesus was shed…and that is all.
