It happened mainly because the good guys had started acting more like the bad guys than the bad guys. So the bad guys (at God's orders) have come and taken away the good guys from where they lived.
They round up the top religious guys, their helpers, the officer in charge of the army, the cabinet members, and the guy in charge of recruiting along with a bunch of his men.
And they execute them all.
The "poor" they allow to live, and some are even allowed to stay at home without being taken captive.
Why? Why do the "poor" get to live and the achievers and leaders are killed?
Is it because the main ambition of the poor is survival? Are they seen as so concerned with taking care of their daily life that they're no threat to anyone? Are the others seen as dangerous because they are thinkers living beyond their daily needs, who are organized and motivated to mobilize themselves and others for a purpose bigger than themselves?
I don't know.
But it made me ask myself: Am I so concerned with my own little world and meeting my own needs, that I would be no threat to people or systems determined to do thier own evil will?
