This is maybe what you think of when you picture the Blue Ridge Parkway. This part of the road is called the Linn Cove Viaduct, and it goes around Grandfather Mountain. The road was originally going to be built over the mountain, and if it had been, this scenic ribbon would not exist. The road was not built over the mountain largely because of the love of one man for that mountain. He took this photo.
