Emily is unwrapping small gifts in the midst of the mundane again. I have to leave in a few minutes and don’t have time to notice any small gifts (is time the qualifier for experiencing appreciation?) but I clicked over to Justin and saw one:
I have often said that the sole cause of man’s unhappiness is that he does not know how to stay quietly in his room – Pascal
I think the quietly is the thing there. I can stay in my room. And work, or try to, or feel guilty that I’m not. Quietly can seem wrong when there's things to do (there's always things to do) and you’re not accomplishing anything. Or are you?
Be still and know that I am God – Psalm 46.10

I, too, don't take time to just be quiet. It seems the laundry, dishes, vacuuming and kids all clamor for my attention. But it's so worth it when I am still and know God.

I cherish the sound of silence. All great works began in silence. We've raised a generation of kids who think they have to surround themselves with noise. I fear we've lost something wonderful.
