Cademon was the first to notice the hissing coming from the tire on our 4-Runner in his driveway. He's 7. He's our grandson. I don't know how he noticed the slight hissing above the sound of his own yelling and screaming that's normal for his playing. Maybe it was between breaths.
He gathered his brothers and they all listened and saw the bolt -- yes a big bolt; when Tire Kingdom looked at it, the bolt even had a big nut screwed on the end stuck in the tire. They ran and told Brenda (I was at work) and 90 minutes later they were all fixed up with a new tire.
That night, I thought I should call Cademon and thank him for being so observant and saving his Grandy from getting stuck on the side of the road. I piled on the character traits he had shown -- alert, attentive, diligent, helpful, responsible...(except I don't think I did it alphabetically). I was thinking to myself, oh yeah, this is working, this is a defining moment cementing our relationship and his destiny as a responsible adult...
Then finally he spoke -- "do you have brown eyes?"
Pop. Hssssss. OK, maybe it was more a defining moment for me. And our talk about eye color was great.
